One of the biggest advantages

One of the biggest advantages I see for Google chrome is that it's execution of javascript is fast, super fast. This will allow for more high demand applications to be delivered via internet, think about the office suite that Google provides, or games with 3D graphics (probably far away) and other nifty things. With HTML 5.0 and javascript 2 around the corner it looks like we can do away with Flash and Silverlight in many (but probably not all) areas. With Chrome Google will be pushing the forward the browser market substantially. Both Safari and Mozilla Firefox have been working on such technology, but it will be some months before we some improvements coming from those camps.

Simon, I thought that the upcoming Firefox javascript engine was very fast. I'm sure I read a benchmarking promo last week, maybe they knew Chrome was coming and wanted to remind peple they were 'on it'.

Yes, the next version (3.1)

Yes, the next version (3.1) of Firefox will have an improved JavaScript engine, see here for more details. However, it is not until version 4.0 that there will be a much improved JavaScript engine (Tamarin). They claim that version 4.0 will rival the speed of C, but I find that unlikely since many interpreted languages have made similar claims and I don't think any have lived up to it in all cases.

point is they are both _fast_ we did some benchmarking the other day ff 3.0 was 300 to 500 ms and chrome was 250 to 400ms while ie 7 was 2.9 seconds!

proof of concept build of chromium ... not perfect but good for testing khtml rendering.

Chrome have a potential.. But

Chrome have a potential..
But FireFox with all its plug-ins, add-ons & extensions is the browser for the developer.

It will take a while till Chrome will have that, don't you think!?
